Teachers were asked
(T-IV) to describe the percentage of their total teaching time that was devoted to a list of instructional strategies. The responses to these questions are shown here. These results show that teacher presentations, whole class discussions, small group discussions, problem-solving/decision-making activities and videos were used more often as teaching strategies. Peer teaching, theatre, in-class reflection, computer-based learning, role-playing, field trips, presentations by people living with AIDS, presentations by public health personnel, and team teaching were seldom used. Activities to establish a supportive classroom environment were used by about 60% of teachers some of the time.Figure 131

Teachers were also asked how much emphasis they placed on the importance of students keeping journals on their thoughts and experience concerning sexuality. On a nine point scale, where one was "very much" and nine was "none", the average response was 6.24. This indicates that most teachers do not use this teaching strategy.
