Leadership - Monitoring, Disseminating Research
8.1.15 Leadership - Monitoring, Disseminating Research
Health ministries were asked (MOH-1) if they monitored the sexual health, STD and HIV-related behaviours of adolescents. They were also asked if there were regular measurements of youth knowledge, attitudes and skills in these areas.

Health ministries were also asked
(MOH-2) how they communicated such data on HIV/STD/sexual health behaviours to various audiences. The following is a summary of those responses.Figure 54

Health ministries and public health units were asked two specific questions about disseminating data on youth sexual health behaviours and disseminating research on HIV prevention/sexual health promotion.
About one-third of public health respondents indicated that they are regularly disseminating data or research on the sexual health knowledge, attitudes and behaviours of youth. About 80% of the health ministries and about 60% of the public health units report that they share this data regularly with other agencies, including education. The following tables report on these results:

A similar question was asked about disseminating research. About half of health ministries and about one-third of public health units regularly disseminate research on HIV prevention or sexual health promotion.

Both levels of public health authorities were asked if they shared the results of studies on the sexual health behaviours of youth with educators. About one-quarter of health ministries and about 6/10 of the public health units reported that they did regularly.

The education respondents were asked if they used such data and research on youth sexual health behaviours and prevention to review their programs. Twenty or 30% did not do so; 45%-30% did so within the past 5 years. The following responses were received from education ministries and school districts.

School principals were asked if they used such data and research in a similar question. Most do not share the results of sexuality studies with their staff on a regular basis.
