Planned Instruction - Design of Instructional Programs

8.2.5 Planned Instruction - Design of Instructional Programs

School districts, school principals and teachers were asked questions about the nature of the instructional programs (learning outcomes, materials, teaching methods and time) that they had developed to meet the required goals of the provincial/territorial curricula.

The responses to these questions indicate that most education respondents clearly feel that they are delivering the curricula in a designed program that has been laid out for them.

School districts responded as follows to a question (SD-11) asking if they had a written document or framework describing the instructional programs for:

Principals were asked, for the grade levels in their school, how the HIV/AIDS instruction is delivered. (Note: Respondents were asked to choose only one per grade and not all schools had all grades.)

Finally teachers (T-IV-10) and public health nurses were asked if they followed or supplemented the sexuality curricula from the ministry.

Three-quarters of teachers (71.5%) said that they followed the ministry curriculum, 10.7% said they did not and 8.9% said that they did not know and 8.9% did not answer.

When public health nurses were asked if they had worked with schools to develop a sexuality education program that covered more than the education ministry curriculum, the answers were:
